The
150 acre campus of the CFTRI (where this project is housed),
was once the residence of the princess Cheluvambamani Avaru,
sister of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. The baroque European
Renaissance style palace, profusely ornamented with pilaster
work and lovely mosaic flooring, houses one of the country's
most active centres for the research and development of
post-harvest science and technologies. It offers a two-years
course as well as shorter refresher courses in food technology
and has been an associate institution of the United Nations
University since 1976. The palace situated at the summit
of a low swell of land, provides a magnificent view of
the chamundi Hill.
